Why Do You Suffer From Agoraphobia?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Any phobia has the ability to make life uncomfortable to a certain extent. Agoraphobia is however probably the most wide reaching in its negative impact upon your quality of life. To be afraid of open spaces, or to be fearful of even stepping out of your own back door prevents you from doing so very many things which the rest of humanity take for granted.

Just to go and buy a pint of milk or a daily newspaper may all too easily become impossible to contemplate. The thing with agoraphobia is that it most often starts off as a vague feeling of unease in certain circumstances but this gradually grows into something far more debilitating. Its force is like a snowball gathering snow and speed as it rolls down a hillside. Eventually you can feel like you are caught up in an avalanche of jittery emotions; it is therefore important to take action and do something about it as soon as possible.

The question most often posed is “what action?” If you do manage to get out to see your doctor you are likely to be treated for either anxiety or depression. Not everyone wants to take drugs however and also they do not always work. Agoraphobia makes you feel totally out of control and anything which you can do to help regain a feeling of stability and control will help enormously; and this is relevant no matter whether you are taking tablets or not.

Information helps. Knowing that other people are in the same boat helps you to feel that “it’s not just you”. Trying to think back to the roots of your anxiety will help you identify a potential phobia cure. If you can work out what caused your agoraphobia, then you have more chance of finding a way in which to treat your phobia.

Another way of working to regain your self control, and this is I am sure the most powerfully effective, is to learn to think in a slightly different way. When you have a phobia you tend to dwell upon your fear and imagine what might happen, visualizing all sorts of dreadful scenarios vividly in your mind. These become a self-fulfilling prophesy; it is a known fact that whatever you vividly imagine you create.

You can turn your ability to visualize to your very great advantage by choosing what you would like to see. You can choose to imagine a good outcome, and see yourself as you want to be. This may seem far too simple a solution; but please do not underestimate it as it is very effective. You will probably need to first learn how to eradicate negative images from your mind, just as you would need to wipe a blackboard clean of what is written upon it before writing now information on it.

The hypnosis phobia cure has been shown to be a very powerful way in which you can learn to think in a different way and take control of your life once more. You can use a cure phobia hypnosis mp3 as a way in which to take control for yourself.

Is Fear Stopping You From Spreading Your Wings?

All fears are debilitating. In this day and age a fear of flying creates a massive negative impact, both personally and more frequently, in the business arena. What can you do to overcome fear of flying?

Fear is a debilitating thing. It creates the same effect in a human as broken wings do to a bird. It means that your world remains smaller than it could; it holds you back in so very many ways. Fear can affect many areas of one’s life, and each instance creates a major impact. How can one small thought trigger off such a very great impact?

I wonder how many people there are in the world who suffer from a fear of flying. I suspect that the number is increasing as the years pass, if only because more people have the financial ability to fly and there is an increasing choice of flights to choose from. It is inevitable that with more flights there are likely to be more accidents, in the same way as more cars upon roads leads to more motor accidents.

You can look at statistics in many different ways. If you simply count the number of accidents, then the number will increase. If you worked out the number of accidents as a ratio to the number of flights, or cars using the roads, then the result will clearly differ. You may have heard quoted that you are more likely to be killed by a donkey than by an airplane. As I said, there are many potential interpretations which one may make with regards to number of accidents, or likelihood of crashes.

The cause of a fear of flying, however, rarely focuses upon a fear of crashing. You probably think that this is at the root of your fear, but this is rarely the case. Ask yourself do you allow your husband or wife, brother or sister, mother or father, son or daughter, friend or acquaintance to fly? Do you feel as fearful when these people fly as when you yourself plan to fly? For most people, they worry a little bit about other people flying but are absolutely petrified when it comes to themselves.

This doesn’t mean that you don’t care about these people enough; it just highlights the fact that a fear of crashing is not the real cause of your fear of flying. A fear of flying may be a symptom caused by a fear of being out of control, or being stuck or trapped, or perhaps related to social phobia, or a fear of heights. There are many reasons why a fear may be learned, but whatever the reason, you can cure fear of flying with the help of hypnosis.

Fear is an instinctive reaction, triggered automatically and therefore outside your conscious and logical control. This is why it does not respond well to logic. Fear is not logical, it is emotional. Fear comes from your subconscious mind, not from your conscious thought processes. Hypnosis provides access to your subconscious mind and hence a methodology with which to cure fears.

How To Cure Fears

If you are afraid, you’re afraid, right? Fear is something which you feel. It’s simply there, and logical thought just doesn’t seem to be strong enough to banish the instinctive and debilitating symptoms of fear. Most often you know that your fear is illogical, and yet this knowledge doesn’t help one iota.

If you suffer a fear of any description you have probably tackled it in various ways. Most people with a fear of heights, for instance, approach their fear primarily by avoidance. If you don’t go “up there” you won’t be afraid. But there are many times when you would dearly like to be able to climb up to the top of whatever landmark it may be, or to drive over a bridge, or to use a ski lift.

Similarly, it is rare for those who are afraid of public speaking, or who suffer from a touch of social phobia to not have tried a “wee dram” in an attempt to “settle their nerves”. If you have a fear of flying you have probably tried both of these approaches and also that of forcing yourself to get onto that plane and simply “grin and bear it”.

None of the approaches mentioned thus far are actually focused upon getting your mind to overcome your fear. They are simply coping mechanisms; ways in which you try to live with your fear. And this is the most common way in which people attempt to deal with fear. If your problem was that of a sore throat or a broken leg you would know what to do; you would take medicine or visit the doctor and let him or her sort it out for you.

But fear is a different “animal”. Fear is an instinctive emotional reaction, as opposed to a physical illness. The cure cannot come from outside of yourself; no-one else can cure fear for you. They can, however, guide you in the right direction by showing you the best way in which to begin your search for a cure.

The first step in the process of finding a cure for fear is to change your focus from that of merely coping (in a sense of “damage limitation”) to that of focusing upon a complete cure. Whatever you focus upon tends to come to fruition. If you do not look for a fear cure, you will not see one; rather, you will remain blind to the cure.

The next step is in understanding what fear is. The physical symptoms of fear are experienced due to a release of adrenalin – known as the “fight or flight” response – which is triggered instinctively whenever threat is perceived. If you are experiencing fear in situations where you know at a logical level that no real fear exists, then you know that your fear is being triggered from a subconscious part of your mind.

If your fear is perceived and triggered by your subconscious, does it makes sense to you to seek a cure for fear from within your subconscious? With hypnosis you gain access to your subconscious mind, and so you can retrain your mind to no longer create these erroneous perceptions of threat. Fear is something which is learned; it is the result of an erroneous belief which has become stored within the subconscious mind. Beliefs can be changed. Fears can be changed. In fact, fears can be eliminated with hypnosis help.
